Can’t live without….
I’d love to hear what you guys just can’t live without. This time, I want to know about fashion and what’s in your closet. I just moved all of my fall and winter clothing into my bedroom and was embarassed. Chad said “Beth, why are you embarassed”? I said “I have too many clothes and it’s just embarassing”.
I buy the same things over and over, I think that’s why it’s so embarassing. I have like 6 white collared shirts and 5 white boat-neck 3/4 length t-shirts. I’m such a slob, too, so I can blame some of my craziness with white shirts on that, but mostly we’ll just call it a fashion obsession, or a must have, can’t live without thing.
My sister Becky, for instance, has like 7 pea-coats. One night I made her tell me all of the colors. She has, I think, 2 grey, 1 black, 1 navy, 1 pink, 1 camel and 1 off-white I’m pretty sure. She loves coats. She just bought a gorgeous tweed coat with a sassy belt. I’m excited about that one.
My other sister, Laura, is obsessed with jeans. I remember that she told me once that she had about 26 pairs of jeans. I’m not lying. She does have a little bit of an excuse, she went from a size 12 to a size 8, but still, 26 pairs of jeans?
What’s your fashion obsession? What do you find yourself buying the same things of over and over?
I think I need to go on “what not to wear”. They would eat me alive.

Beth, you have a great sense of style. I want to learn from you! What not to wear?! Pshaw! My absolute favorite thing right now is my dress that is a modern take on a fifties shirt dress. I need to figure out how to convert it to winter wear (it is thin cotton and short sleeves). I don’t have an obsession, per se, but I love shoes and purses. I really need to update but Jason keeps saying, ‘wait”. My shoes are three or four years old (except my aerobics shoes).
Hmmm. I’m not sure. I changed all my summer/winter clothes and thought, “wow, I need to go shopping.” My sweaters are so old it’s ridiculous! I went through my clothes and got rid of everything I haven’t worn in the last couple of years or doesn’t fit me right. Despite my love of fashion, I have a hard time buying for myself usually, and I’m trying to buy things here and there so I won’t have to go on a huge shopping spree to stock up! I really could use you as my personal shopper!
Anyway, I think what I keep buying is turtlenecks. I love them! So classy, they make everyone look taller and leaner. You can wear them with jeans, skirts, with great jewelry, with a jacket or without! Also, I find myself buying the same colors all the time. Usually brown and green. I’ve been trying to break out of that the past year by adding blues, purples, and burnt orange. But I do love brown and all the natural tones!!
Hey, you can never have too many white shirts in my book!
I love layers…lots of layers. In the summer it is long tanks under tees in the winter it is tight white long sleave shirts under short sleave shirts. I do love sweaters but really only can wear them at night around here….TOO HOT. I have MODBE type shirts in every color. I also love OLD things. I have this old long sweater that was my mothers in college and I absolutely adore it. It is very hippie looking is knittied has this hood and old wooden buttons and it is long. My mother can’t believe I still have it and wear it almost every day in the winter. ( I use it as my coat here a lot) I also have an old sweater that was my Aunts in High School. Love that thing too. Has a great texture and is v neck and thin. Funny thing is I get complements on both of them all the time. People want to know where I got them. I am always looking for things that have an edge but can stand the test of time. But as far as obsession it is the colored and white layer shirts. HEE HEE. I agree with the never can have too many white shirts thing too.
Like Bethany, I am a layers girl! But I have a couple of lightweight fleece jackets that I’m addicted to! I think it started because I’m always cold, and it’s nice to have something that I can just throw on. Then, my workplace decided that it can’t handle major weather changes, so we either freeze or cook with any major weather event. Enter – my fleece thing again! Don’t know what I’d do without them.
Hey, I just noticed that I can comment on your blog now!!! Very cool. I hit “submit” and was like, wait – I just commented on Beth’s blog!
Thanks for revealing my obsession with pea coats to the entire world… at least it’s out in the open now and I no longer have to live with the shame. I guess you can’t change what you’re not willing to admit (that’s what Dr. Phil tells me). I do love my pea coats, but you got the statistics a little wrong. 1 camel colored, 1 red, 1 gray, 1 pink, 1 black short one, 1 black long one, 1 black and white tweed (wasn’t as cute as the picture looked on ebay, so I think I’ll sell that one and look for a more flattering one). I would love to get a green one and a brown tweed one, too! There could be worse things to be addicted to, I think. I do also love wool dress pants (only if they’re lined). I guess I really just love all things wool. Wow… I feel better now that I’ve gotten that off my chest. Maybe I should start a blog, very therapeutic.
I’m glad my sisters are reading my blog
There is also an update about my sister Laura’s, number of jeans. I guess I was wrong. When I told her that I wrote on my blog about her and aired that she had 26 pairs of jeans she said “oh…you’re WAY wrong”. She said that she has had way more than that. at one time She recently had my sister Becky Ebay for her a lot of pairs of jeans, but she said that right now, she has 18 pairs that she regularly wears. I said, “really, 18?” and she said “yes, some are summer jeans, some are fall and winter jeans”. I laughed and then she said “some are jeans to wear with flip flops, some with boots and some with other shoes” I then said “and you know which ones these are just by looking at them?” and she said, “oh, yea”. At least you guys know where my clothing obsession comes from. It’s not our fault. My mother used to take us to the mall when Macy’s was called “Bamburgers” and buy us matching Ralph Lauren wardrobes. Ahh, those were the days, huh? Now, Mom doesn’t buy us even a soda. I think we need to chat.
Yay, I can comment now too! Woohoo!
As for my “specific” clothing obsession, I have none -as if you couldn’t tell just by looking at me ; ) However, I do have an “obsession” with comfort, so comfy pants, tshirts and hoodies are my top choice.
The only thing I really have two of is a dressier casual shirt (fits work and school dress codes!) which I have 1 in brown and 1 in black.
I love purses. I wish I didn’t love anything in this world too much, and I’ve only recently developed this handbag thing. In August I bought myself a green suede doctor style one on ebay (6.99) for my b’day (it was my only gift from anyone in my family, so I don’t feel guiltY). Any day now I’m expecting a vintage 1950s black one with the turn-type buckle, also from ebay for 6 bucks. For the record, I haven’t pulled out my fall/winter clothes,. I dread that chore so I procrastinate until I’m freezing. I love jewelry, too (I think it’s my Jewish heritage) whether costume or the real McCoy. I also LOVE pajamas of all kinds, especially satin ones.
Woops, that was me, not my daughter above. Sorry.
Thanks for the comments and, Sarah, you always look nice, by the way
